Digital Scrapbooking Day Is Coming – Enter To Win Now!

Digital Scrapbooking Day is Saturday, October 6th.  It is one of 3 HUGE Deal days for digital scrapbookers and crafters and something designers usually spend weeks preparing for.  You’ll find amazing deals on new everything you need to build your stash and scrap your family story.

If you are a newsletter subscriber you know about the DSD2018 Big Deal Giveaway that is being hosted on my Facebook page.  Most of the details are below and you can click the button to head on over and Enter To Win over $600 in digital scrapbooking products on Tuesday, 10/02/18 at 2 p.m. CST.

This is my third Big Deal to participate in but it’s the first one where the winners will be drawn during a LIVE Facebook Event so the excitement is really buzzing!

This is also the first one where we’ve offered gifts AND Pre-Party Deals for anyone who might not be available for the DSD Sales & Deals.  I’ve had a few messages from people who aren’t on Facebook asking if there is another way to participate.  Unfortunately, due to the software we use so that we can automate the drawing, there isn’t another option to enter the contest BUT, you don’t have to enter to take advantage of the Pre-Party coupons, DSD Deals, AND this time, we’re having a Post-Party too so you won’t want to miss out on that.

REFER YOUR FRIENDS FOR MORE CHANCES TO WIN

Congratulations to Rhonda Willard!  Rhonda shared the DSD 2018 on her social media and two of her friends registered on my page.  This means Rhonda just earned TWO MORE chances to Win!

Congratulations to Kari Reardon, Rita Filler, and Robyn Littlejohn!  Each of these ladies has earned one extra chance at winning the BIG DEAL!

Go ahead and register and then follow the instructions to share with your friends for more chances to win.

Good Luck!

The Three Rs – With 3 Tips To Scrap Your Family Story If You Don’t Have Photos

The Three Rs – With 3 Tips To Scrap Your Family Story If You Don’t Have Photos

The school lines are long again.  Jim & I do all we can to plan our day around school zone times but occasionally it simply can’t be avoided so we wait on children to cross or a bus to creep to a stop.

My newsfeed has been filled with “first day of school” photos from Pre-K all the way up to high school seniors.  The expressions on the faces of the subjects are very different.  Moms will be moms.

Personally, I don’t recall first day of school photos.  Of course, getting the camera out was more of an event back then.  Today, even some of the elementary students are snapping photos from their smartphones.

It’s clear that this generation will have more photos but it’s the stories of the photos I’m concerned with.

The August Heritage Scrappers Club Mega was The Three Rs.  Like all HSC Releases, it was designed with your own life and your ancestors’ life in mind.  It is filled with elements from a different time period.  A time when students had to share a book and some did their lessons on lap chalkboards instead of laptops.

This is also a time when photos were rare or perhaps they simply didn’t get passed down to the person who wants to tell the story.  I had more than one conversation about scrapping school days without photos.  As a society, we’re more attached to photos than we’ve ever been but stories can and should be told, with or without the photo to back it up.

Here are a few tips to get your family school days story told if you don’t have photos.

Use another form of documentation
If you don’t have school photos you can substitute your photo area with school certificates, report cards, letters written by the subject (they learned to write in school).

Use a family photo
A family photo with parents and children can work as a stand-in for almost any story.  We love having people on our layouts but you might also use a photo of the family homestead.

Substitute a stock photo
I know.  I know.  Your family heritage albums are supposed to include your family photos but if you know the story and don’t have the photos, it would be a shame for your children and grandchildren to miss out on the story.  Go ahead and sub in a vintage photo of any school and get the story told.  Your family will be glad you improvised and you will too.

If you’re ready to get started, The Three Rs is available and on sale in all of my stores now.  I hope it helps you tell your family school days stories.  I would love to see your pages in the group too.  You never know when your page or story will be the one that inspires another member “get creative” and cross another project off their list.

When Is The Best Time To Start Scrapbooking Your Family Story?

When Is The Best Time To Start Scrapbooking Your Family Story?

It’s been almost a year since the Heritage Scrappers Club was “born”.  I’m on a Genealogy Jaunt this weekend so I’m coming to you through the amazing magic of technology.  What I didn’t realize until I started writing was that I was also away on a similar fact-finding mission last year when Time Traveler made its debut.  I’ve been researching my own family story for most of my life.  I have hundreds of photos, documents, and stories.  Some scrapped.  Some partially scrapped.  Some waiting to be scrapped.  Sound familiar?

I never get to as much as I plan but I have been able to do more in terms of organizing and scrapping since the group and club started.  I’ll take progress any way I can get it.  I know this is a lifelong journey.  I want to enjoy each and every step and I truly LOVE the inspiration coming from the Heritage Scrappers Facebook Group.

Last week I asked members to tell a school days story of their own or one they had heard from family members while growing up.  Reading the comments was like getting my hands on a favorite book and not being able to put it down.  One story leads to another.  Hopefully, some of those stories will lead to new scrapbook stories this month.

The Heritage Scrappers Club Monthly Mega for August is The Three Rs.  It was designed to help us document our own school days or those of any family member.  This is the 11th Mega Collection in the Heritage Scrappers Club Series.  To celebrate a very successful year for genealogy scrappers, I’ve reduced the price of the monthly subscriber option from $19.95 per month to $14.95 per month.  If THAT isn’t enough to help you decide that NOW is the best time to start Scrapbooking Your Family Story…. How about another $2 off?  I have a Limited Offer Available that reduces the monthly subscription price to just $12.95 per month.  Of course, if you know NOW is the time and you’re ready to commit to completing big projects this year, you can save even more with the Annual Plan.  Subscribe today for $119.40 and it reduces the Mega Collection to just $9.95 per month.  Each month you get the Complete Mega Collection plus 2 sets of genealogy based Bonuses ($50 – $60 VALUE) for one low price.

You can see the previous Heritage Scrappers Club Releases here.

New Members will also receive the Genealogy Starter Pack FREE.

This month, one of the Bonuses is an Add-On to Time Traveler, my first HSC Mega.  You can also get the Add-On FREE in August by participating in the Color Challenge at the Studio.  I’ve also put the entire Time Traveler Collection on sale this month.  Save 60% on the Collection or 40% on individual products but HSC Members will get a bonus coupon to use on all previous HSC Releases.

NOW is the Best Time.  It won’t get any better than this.

Scrap Your Genealogy Story with Prairie Home

Scrap Your Genealogy Story with Prairie Home

I was born and grew up in Kansas; I have lived in Nebraska since 1989. The two states are VERY similar in geography and climate. My mother was born in Kansas and has roots there back to the homesteading days. My father grew up in Kansas and considered himself a “Kansas boy”. Many of your ancestors would have migrated through Kansas and Nebraska on either the Santa Fe Trail or the Oregon trail and probably a few of them called Kansas or Nebraska their final destination and went no further.

Kansas was first settled by white pioneers in 1812 but saw an influx of settlers in the 1850s with the Kansas Nebraska act of 1854. The land in the eastern third of each state was rich farmland and groves of hardwoods. The annual rainfall was bountiful for many crops and fruit trees. As settlers moved further west they found grasslands that would support wheat and corn and when “winter wheat” seeds arrived from the steppes of Russia the wheat farmers had found just the right crop. Soon both states were producing food for the nation in abundance.

The western third of both states is the most arid and farming settlers had success initially due to higher than usual amounts of rainfall; today this area supports large cattle ranches. The Kansas town Abilene, at the end of the Chisholm Trail, was a railhead destination for cattle from Texas in the late 1800s. Wichita and Dodge City were at the end of other cattle trails. The “West” as popularized by TV and movies begins in the western third of these two states and moves west to other familiar western towns.
