Everything You Need To Scrap Your Santa Fe Trail Family Story

Everything You Need To Scrap Your Santa Fe Trail Family Story

I was born in the small Kansas town of Council Grove. Perhaps some of my love of history comes from being surrounded by an abundance of Historical Markers (21 of them) and discussion of the past as if it were just yesterday.

Council Grove was named for a large grove of hardwood trees that offered shelter from the Kansas heat and cold. The stand of trees next to the Neosho River was a place to gather for Native Americans and later for travelers heading west.  The town was named after an agreement between European Americans and the Osage Nation. The agreement allowed settlers’ wagon trains to pass through the area and proceed onto Santa Fe.  Council Grove was the last community on the Santa Fe trail (before Santa Fe) for many years and was the place travelers restocked their supplies and repaired their wagons. There are a total of 13 sites there listed on the National Register of Historic Places: The Last Chance Store, Hays House Restaurant, Post Office Oak,  Council Oak, Custer Elm and more.

The Santa Fe trail began primarily as a trade route. Mexico had just gained independence from Spain and the inhabitants of the southwest were anxious for trade with Americans, and vice versa. Pioneering settlers also followed the trail, adding to the populations of Texas, Colorado, future Arizona & New Mexico and California.

Santa Fe Trail Featured Layout

I choose a featured layout for each collection but it is NEVER EASY!  This week I selected the Bandelier National Monument layout by Poki.  I thought the title tabs were a very creative way to title each of the photos and the vase with flowers and greenery gave this page depth and interest.

Somewhere Featured Layout

Choosing the featured layout for Somewhere was a difficult task!  In the end, I picked The Blue Jacket by Pia.  I love the out of bounds frame and delicate clusters.  The lace border ads a touch of elegance to this page too.  Most of all though, I think this layout represents a moment.  A day in the life type of layout that represents simple moments we should all celebrate.

Smuggler’s Notch Trail – Refreshed & On Sale

Smuggler’s Notch Trail – Refreshed & On Sale

My husband and I visit Vermont frequently; we have family there AND it is a beautiful state with many wonderful places to visit. When I think of Vermont my mind immediately sees the amazing blaze of colors that cover the mountains in autumn, the lodge fireplace and the horse-drawn sleighs at Stowe in winter, and food…homemade applesauce and pancakes dripping with butter and maple syrup, and rich white cheddar from Cabot.

One of the BEST places to trek (my opinion only LOL) is a narrow path through thousand-foot cliffs, once a smuggling route for Vermont rum runners into Canada, and now a park used for biking, hiking, picnicking and rock climbing. Smugglers Notch road is closed by snow in winter and is not kept open for vehicles, so only those with skis or snowshoes can get through. The Smugglers Notch ski resort is on the north side of the notch; to get there in winter you must drive all the way around the mountain.

Smuggler’s Notch Trail has been “refreshed” and is available in all of my stores.  I’ve also returned it to the original intro pricing through April 14th.

The Smugglers Notch Trail Bundle by ADB Designs includes 7 packs:

  • Page Kit
  • Add-On Mini
  • Image Papers
  • Vintage Solids
  • Stacked Papers
  • CU Victorian Butterflies
  • And an EXCLUSIVE BONUS pack of Filigree Maple Leaves

Smuggler’s Notch Trail Featured Layout

I chose Germany, 1983 by Lana as the featured layout.  I love how she used the frames to show a variety of photos but the way she masked out the top layer of paper really made this page unique.  In fact, I loved it so much, I made a quick page out of it.  You can download it below and put your own creative touches on it.

Each week I feature a favorite layout.  These are usually layouts by my awesome Creative Team but I would be delighted to feature YOUR layouts too.  If you have a special layout you want to share simply email me or post it to my facebook page.  I am always thrilled to see how you turn papers and elements into forever memories.

The Hello Friend featured layout is by Poki.  I love the paper strips that highlight the captions and the large photos of the boys combined with the group photo.  This traditional scrapbook page is gorgeous now but it will be a treasure to pull out when they graduate or get married.

Bygone Baby Featured Layouts

I usually feature one layout by a creative team member but this week there are two.  Dana used the banner alphas to start an alphabet book.  I think it is so precious!  This would make a beautiful keepsake but imagine adding a few photos of fruit or animals and turning this into a learning book.
