Scrap Your Masculine Photos With Lumberjack

The rugged outdoor’s men of the North American logging industry worked tirelessly to cut timber and move it to the markets where it was needed to build homes and businesses in the US and Canada. In Australia they were known as Timbercutters and did their work in much the same way as their North American counterparts. “Lumberjack” was acknowledged to be the “most dangerous job” and they lived away from home in lumber camps during the cutting season. The lumberjack (and very occasional lumberjill) did not have the benefit of today’s power tools; they cut the forests and moved the logs with hand tools and brawn. Many immigrants from Europe’s northern climates enjoyed success as lumberjacks, just as they had at home in their native countries.

War & Occasional Peace – A Heritage Scrapbooking Collection

War & Occasional Peace – A Heritage Scrapbooking Collection

We often presume that World War I was the first time the world was at war, but the period from the beginning of the “Thirty Years War” in 1618 until the end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815, or even as late as the American Civil War (1861-1865) and the January Uprising of 1863 would be good contenders for a World at War. AND given the short space until the start of WW I perhaps, the world has been at war much longer than we realize. This collection forucuses on the time of war that I memntioned first: 1618 – 1815. These wars caused mass migrations as well as sons feeling conscription. You may want to consider in your research of your family tree, just how often war might have been the cause of ancestor movement.

Fur Trade Frontier was the Heritage Scrappers Club selection for June 2019. Though designed with heritage scrappers in mind, this collection, like the others in this series was deliberately created so it may also be used successfully with contemporary photos and with photos that are off topic as well.

Fur Trade Frontier – A Heritage Scrapbooking Collection

Fur Trade Frontier – A Heritage Scrapbooking Collection

The fur trade became one of the main economic ventures in North America attracting competition among the French, British, Dutch, Spanish, and Russians. Indeed, in the early history of the United States, capitalizing on this trade, and removing the British stranglehold over it, was seen as a major economic objective. Many Native American societies across the continent came to depend on the fur trade as their primary source of income. By the mid-1800s changing fashions in Europe brought about a collapse in fur prices.

Riding the Rails Heritage Scrappers Resources May, 2019

Riding the Rails Genealogy Scrapbooking Collection

The railroads criss crossing America needed workers to lay the tracks, to blast through the mountains, to weld and hammer and supervise … it was difficult and often dangerous work. Recent immigrants and their children were often the only ones who would take this work. The conditions were rough and many died helping to bring the coasts together and help move settlers and goods across this nation.
